He was born on 7th December 1949 in a respectable Muslim family of Barohal, Sylhet. He joined in Pubali Bank as Prob. Senior Officer in March 1977 through Superior Service Examination (Batch-1977) and served in the same bank in different important positions including Additional Managing Director (AMD), Deputy Managing Director (DMD), General Manager of different Divisions, Incumbent of different corporate branches including GM of Principal Branch. Mr. Chowdhury holds an unique position of becoming the MD of the same bank joining as Prob. Senior Officer. He is an MA and a Diplomaed Associate of IBB. He received Pubali Bank Limited Gold Medal for his outstanding performance.

While in Business promotion tour in England, Helal Ahmed Chowdhury attended Orientation training in former BCCI London, Netwest London etc. in 1986-1987. He participated in several trainings and seminars both at home and abroad & also participated as trade delegation of FBCCI in Saudi Arabia. He traveled UK, Switzerland, Malaysia & India etc. for attending different international seminar/training. He has been blessed with one son & one daughter and his wife is a teacher.
